Street Ambassadors

The most important volunteer position! Street Ambassadors are the official event hosts and street safety monitors. Volunteers are stationed at intersections or are roving the street to help set up/take down barricades, keep cars off the route and help pedestrians and cyclists move safely through the busy event. 

All Street Ambassadors receive sidewalk chalk, hula hoops, bubbles, jump rope or another fun activity to activate their station and have fun with event goers - perfect for families volunteering together.

Street Ambassadors also help answer questions, administer surveys, and count participants during their shift. Enthusiastic and outgoing people are encouraged to sign up!

There are 3 shifts to choose from:
10:30am-1:15pm, 12:30pm-3:15pm, 2:30pm-5:15pm

Movers Not Shakers

A great workout and a HUGE help in getting Open Streets Mpls moving!  
Movers Not Shakers crew helps load and/or unload our Open Streets moving truck at the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition office before the event begins and after it ends.

These shifts take place at the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition office at 1428 Washington Avenue South. Requires being flexible on staff arrival time, ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb 1 flight of stairs. 

There are 2 shifts to choose from:
9:15-10:15am or 5:30-6:30pm

Set Up Crew

Prepare the street to be opened to thousands of people! 
The Set Up crew helps set up tents, place barricades and signs along the route. This shift takes place before the event.

Info Booth Rep

Staff the Open Streets Info Booth!
Be a friendly face to curious event goers! Info boothers provide resources to navigate the event, answer questions, and encourage people to fill out surveys, tweet and get involved. A great way to meet a lot of people!

Enthusiastic and outgoing people are encouraged to sign up!

Merchandise Tent Crew

Staff the Open Streets Merchandise Tent!
Support the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition & Open Streets Mpls by selling Open Streets T-shirts, posters, and other merchandise! Share information with participants about memberships and the Coalition's work, and support booth set up and breakdown.

People with customer service or fundraising experience encouraged to sign up!

There are 3 shifts to choose from: 
10:30am-1:00pm, 12:45pm-3:15pm, 3:00pm-5:30pm

Planeteers

Planeteers get to see the whole event AND save the planet! We want to leave a good impression in the neighborhood and leave no traces behind of the fun had during the event. Volunteers are needed to help pick up the trash and recycling along the route, and help sort waste in bins during the event. Volunteers with more experience may be asked to remain in the sustainability zone to lead education & waste reduction efforts at waste bins. Gloves, bags, pinchers and praise provided.

10:30am-1:15pm, 12:30pm-3:15pm, 2:30pm-5:15pm

Break Down Crew

The shortest shift on the route!
We want to leave a good impression in the neighborhood and leave no traces behind of the fun had during the event. Volunteers are needed to help pick up the garbage and recycling along the route, break down tents, and take down barricades at the end of the event.

1 shift: 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Roving Photographers

Are you an aspiring professional photographer with your own camera?
Volunteer to use your photography skills to capture the spirit of the Open Streets! While anyone can and should take photos to document the event, we would love to know who will be out and when. Have your photos featured on the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition and Open Streets websites. Roving Photographers also help promote Open Streets MPLS by posting to social media during or after the event.

Protected Bikeway Team

Demonstrate the benefits of protected bikeways!
Help cyclists try out the pop-up protected bikeway. Talk with people about the benefits and collect postcards to show support for more protected bikeways in Minneapolis! Enthusiastic and outgoing people are encouraged to sign up!

10:45am-1:15pm, 1:00pm-3:30pm, 3:15pm-5:45pm
