ONE: Submit food permit information

If you are selling or giving away food or drink, you will need to submit a food permit via online form for every event you wish to participate in. The only types of edible items that do not require food permits are bottled water distribution or pre-packaged candy distribution. All permitting costs are covered by your Open Streets MPLS participation fee.

If you do not fit in one of the categories listed below, you will apply for a Short Term Food Vendor Permit.

  • Cottage Food Producer Registration (from the Minnesota Dept. of Agriculture)

  • Minneapolis Seasonal Food Permit

  • Minneapolis Food Truck (Mobile) License

  • Exempt Vendors (Product of the Farm or Pour-Only Vendors)

Select the link that applies to you in the chart below to fill out your correct form. Not sure which category you fall into? Contact us at [email protected].

TWO: Attend required food safety training

Beginning in 2023, the City of Minneapolis Department of Health is requiring food safety training for all Open Streets Minneapolis vendors in order for them to be able to participate in the Open Streets Minneapolis events. Training sessions will take place via Zoom meeting.

In partnership with the City of Minneapolis Health Department, Our Streets MPLS will host five trainings:

  • Tuesday, 5/16 at 4:30 pm

  • Tuesday, 6/20 at 4:30 pm

  • Tuesday, 7/25 at 4:30 pm

  • Tuesday, 8/15 at 4:30 pm

  • Tuesday, 9/12 at 4:30 pm

Please note that trainings must be completed at least two weeks prior to the scheduled event

To register for one of the trainings OR to request a separate training time, fill out the form at this link.

If you are participating in multiple events, you need only attend one training.
