5 Things to Look Forward to at West Broadway 2021

For the past 11 years, Our Streets Minneapolis & the City of Minneapolis have been opening up streets across Minneapolis for people to explore. It’s a space for communities to come together and enjoy streets without cars.

Next weekend on September 11th, we’re opening up West Broadway Ave for our first event of the 2021 season! Each year is an exciting, unique event full of vendors, entertainment, and more. Here are some things you can look forward to at Open Streets Minneapolis on West Broadway:

FLOW: Northside Arts Pop-up

FLOW: Northside Arts Crawl is a three-day event series celebrating artists in North Minneapolis. From dance, to music, to painting, there is something for everyone. This year’s crawl has passed, but you can come experience the art at West Broadway! There will be a FLOW Pop-up near Penn Ave N where you can view, experience, and create your own art.

Save the Boards

Last year during the uprising surrounding the murder of George Floyd, hundreds of art pieces bloomed on boarded-up areas across the city. A collection of these protest arts will be displayed at the West Broadway event thanks to Save the Boards. Kenda Zellner-Smith founded Save the Boards to protect these meaningful pieces and keep them within the community. Since the start, over a thousand pieces have been saved from being thrown away or auctioned off. Come check out the pieces near N Knox Avenue North.

Artisan Market

What’s better than buying local? The Artisan Market will feature local makers selling their home-made creations. From self-care items, to hand-made jewelry, to painted designs - there’s something for everyone! Here is a peak at our market vendors: Boss Queen LLC, Continental Enterprises Twothousand, Inner Peace Fragrance, MoreLove, One Love Roots Wear LLC, Starry Blaze Art, & YeasayerLLC.

Programming

There will be over 90 vendors, artists, and entertainers across the route at Open Streets Minneapolis on West Broadway. Talk politics with the money.power.land.solidarity podcast team or test ride electric scooters with Lyft. Share your thoughts with Sidewalk Talk or grab a bite to eat from a local food truck. There is plenty to explore at West Broadway. Check out the event map here.

Get vaccinated!

Have you gotten your COVID-19 vaccination yet? If not, stop by a vaccination site at this event! There will be two opportunities to get vaccinated at West Broadway:

COVID-19 Community Mobile Vaccination Bus offered by the Minnesota Department of Health, located near N Aldrich Ave. You can sign up in advance here.

Shots at the Shop with Black Nurses Rock, between 10AM and 2PM at Wilson's Image Barbershop.

Getting vaccinated helps protect yourself and your community from COVID-19. Healthcare professionals will be on site to answer any questions you may have.

Open Streets Minneapolis on West Broadway is on Saturday, September 11th. We’re excited to see you at the event!

Open Streets Minneapolis events are hosted by Our Streets Minneapolis and the City of Minneapolis. This West Broadway event is also hosted locally by the West Broadway Business and Area Coalition.
